My Week With Marilyn Theatrical Trailer Released

Initially, Michelle Williams turned down the role of Marilyn Monroe, thinking Monroe is too different from her. I guess she came to her senses and took on the hard task of portraying one of the most famous and mysterious icons in Hollywood. It is said to be one of the few -if not the only- films that show Monroe as a human being, not just a caricature or a blonde sex symbol. The film is about “Colin Clark, an employee of Sir Laurence Olivier’s, documents the tense interaction between Olivier and Marilyn Monroe during production of The Prince and the Showgirl” (courtesy of IMDb). Directed by Simon Curtis, other actors and actresses include Kenneth Branagh as Laurence Olivier, much buzzed about Eddie Redmayne as Colin Clark, Dominic Cooper, Emma Watson and Judi Dench, as well as other talented cast members. There is a big buzz around Michelle Williams’ portrayal of Marilyn Monroe, so much so that she could be a strong Best Actress contender during the awards season. Film Society has a “Spotlight” blog post on why people should see the movie. It is worth checking out.

What do you think about the trailer? Do you still want to learn more about this relationship?

My Week With Marilyn opens November 4th in United States. However, Marilyn will have its World Premiere at the New York Film Festival, as the Centerpiece film. If you would like to be one of the few people to see it before the theatrical release, see it at New York Film Festival! Showtimes are October 9, at 6:30pm, 9pm and October 12, at 7pm. Exclusive Drive Red Band Trailer from IGN!

Ryan Gosling, Christina Hendricks, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman and Albert Brooks (as evil?!). What’s not to like about Drive? From IMDb: “A Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a wheelman discovers that a contract has been put on him after a heist gone wrong.” An upcoming movie from Nicolas Winding Refn, Drive is Ryan Gosling’s first action movie. He has broken our hearts and made us sob until our tears ran out. We sympathized with his characters’ quirky “habits.” Every girl has fallen in love with him in The Notebook. It seems like Gosling is expanding his repertoire this year with Crazy, Stupid, Love (opens today!) and Drive. I think he is a great actor.

Drive premiered at Cannes Film Festival in competition (!) and took home Best Director for Refn. In my opinion, it was definitely chosen as a wild-card for the competition but it was loved and lauded by critics and the general audience. Apparently, Drive got a 15 minute standing ovation at its premiere.

This trailer for Drive has the feeling of Steve McQueen car chase movies (Bullitt anyone?), with standout performances from the cast -especially Ryan Gosling. Can Gosling be the next McQueen? What would you name the nameless driver?

Drive opens on September 16, 2011.

Hot Trailer: Contagion - “NO ONE IS IMMUNE”

A “killer” Gwyneth Paltrow? Who would have thought. If she dies during the trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion, then this movie hints us that no one should be surprised about more plot twists and sudden deaths. Trailer gives a realistic, gritty end of the world story. Read More

First Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy Trailer is Released!

Let the Right One In director Tomas Alfredson chose Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy as his next directing project. Based on the novel of the same name by John le Carré and adapted to the big screen by Peter Straughan and Bridget O’Connor, the movie is a British spy-thriller that is set in the Cold War era. Plot is described as “In the bleak days of the Cold War, espionage veteran George Smiley is forced from semi-retirement to uncover a Soviet agent within MI6’s echelons. (thanks IMDB)” Carré’s famous spy Smiley’s investigation involves MI6’s highest “level,” which is also called The Circus.

I am so excited to see so many talented British actors in one movie: Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, John Hurt, Mark Strong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Toby Jones and Ciaran Hinds! What a cast. Can’t wait to see Oldman as Smiley. Fun fact, the events in Istanbul described in the book was shot on location.

So far, the trailer has created a lot of buzz; expectations are high, given the actors starring in the movie. I’m sure Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy will be on every critic’s radar when the movie opens on November 18, 2011. I will make sure to see it.

Hot Indie Film Trailer: Terri

I saw the trailer for Terri when I went to go see Midnight in Paris. It seemed very quirky but also down to earth, thus a genuine coming-of-age story. Directed by Sundance favorite Azazel Jacobs, Terri is the story of -yes, you guessed it right!- Terri (played by newbie Jacob Wysocki), an overweight, lonely high school boy. As he constantly gets harassed in school and struggles in classes, he finds solace in the most unlikely place: office of the assistant principal, Mr. Fizgerald (John C. Reilly). Our pajama wearing Terri befriends Mr. Fitzgerald and through this friendship, they learn different things about themselves and about life. It sounds very cliche but the trailer proves to be different. Also, Terri is “The Pic of the Week” at indieWIRE! It was also nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Terri opens this Friday, July 1st. Make sure to go and see it!

Crazy Clowns in the House!

I’m back!! Sorry guys for being MIA these past couple of weeks. I was so busy with work. Now that I’m all settled, I promise to post regularly.

Clowns can be frightening, but what about the people who embody them? Magnolia Pictures released this crazy red band trailer for The Last Circus, a new film by Alex de la Iglesia. Is it a thriller? Horror? Psycho-thriller? You’ll be the judge. These clowns are no joke, they mean business. The trailer reminds us again and again that no matter how much we try to hide behind masks -in this case clown faces/outfits, we cannot hide forever from our true self.

Here is the description of the movie given by Magnolia:

“1937, Spain is in the midst of the brutal Spanish Civil War. A “Happy” circus clown is interrupted mid-performance and forcibly recruited by a militia. Still in his costume, he is handed a machete and led into battle against National soldiers, where he single handedly massacres an entire platoon. This absurd and disturbing scenario raises the curtain on a twisted tale of love, revenge, and psychopathic clowns that could only spring from the mind of filmmaker Álex de la Iglesia.

Fast forward to 1973, the tail end of the Franco regime. Javier, the son of the clown, dreams of following in his father’s career footsteps, but has seen too much tragedy in his life - he’s simply not funny and is only equipped to play the role of the Sad Clown. He finds work in a circus where he befriends an outlandish cast of characters, but as the Sad Clown he must take the abuse of the brutish Happy Clown Sergio, who humiliates Javier daily in the name of entertainment.

It is here that he meets Natalia, a gorgeous acrobat, and abused wife of Sergio. Javier falls deeply in love with Natalia and tries to rescue her from her cruel and violent husband, unleashing Sergio’s jealousy. But Natalia is torn between her affection towards Javier, and her lust for Sergio.

With neither man willing to back down, this twisted love triangle evolves into a ferocious battle between Sad Clown and Happy Clown, escalating to unbelievable heights in this absurd, shocking, irreverent and unforgettable film.”

The Last Circus will have a limited release on August 12th. Let the spectacle begin!

Rise of the Planet of the Apes gets a full trailer!

A new trailer for the movie debuted today at Yahoo! Movies. If we look past the dreadful title, the movie looks pretty interesting. In Apes, CGI monkeys were used instead of real apes. I might go and see it just for the apes. Rise of the Planet of the Apes opens August 5th.

HOT TRAILER: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Red Band Version)

Twitter is buzzing with this red band trailer for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. SlashFilm posted it to their website, and my oh my, it is a thrilling ride. Trailer has not been released in the US, this is the international version. The song in the background is Trent Reznor and Karen O’s cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.” I love it. Daniel Craig being miserable, scared and sad, while Rooney Mara is a badass chick. Apparently, a green band version for the US will be released this week (how bland- but still could be worth watching). Totally midboggling, hair raising and exciting trailer! David Fincher, you did it again. I will definitely go and see this movie.

First Theatrical Trailer for “I Don’t Know How She Does It” was released yesterday

Yes, it’s cheesy but I WORKED IN THIS MOVIE. I was actually at the very end of the staircase that Sarah Jessica Parker and Pierce Brosnan were climbing in the trailer. The story is about Kate Reddy, a New York working mother, struggling to keep both her professional and personal life stable. It stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear and many more. The movie is based on the book with the same name. Basically, nothing really special. I Don’t Know How She Does It opens September 16th. Isn’t it kind of interesting that The Weinstein Company produced this movie?
